Morphology:
Both male and female adults heave feathers with a yellow-greenish to olive-green color, with a light blue color in the crown, a small orange speck in the chin and a slight touch of blue in the bottom of the dorso. The beak is light, yellowish opaque. The tail is short and pointed. They measure about 12 to 18 cm in total length and weigh 58 g on average. Young specimens have the same coloring as adults.
Reproduction:
They search for a partner in January and lay eggs between February and March. They usually lay 4 to 6 eggs which hatch after about 26 days of incubation. Chicks leave the nest about 42 days after hatching. They nest in tree holes.
Diet:
Their diet is basically composed of fruits such as mango, apples, tangerine and guava. As wel as suaco seeds, bird seeds, bananas among others. They also eat flowers.
Ecology
Range:
They are found in Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela.
Habitat:
Generally found less than 1,500 m. Very common in dry forest areas and cultivated or partially deforested areas. Less comon in canopy and borders of wet jungle. Also visible in gardens, parks and suburban areas.
